Vegan Travel’s birthday celebrations begin in the ever popular, modern city of Amsterdam, Holland. The best way to see the treasures of this 700-year-old city is on a canal cruise along the elegant grachten, lined with homes dating back to the city’s “Golden Age.” Cologne, Germany - a 2,000 year-old city known for its Gothic architecture - will be an exciting stop with its famous twin-spired cathedral and Old Town with many shops, cafés, and taverns.

Pass through the dramatic Rhine Gorge - the most beautiful view of the Rhine River where ancient castles stand on cliffs 400 feet above the water. Cruise to the charming wine towns Koblenz and Rüdesheim. Take an excursion to Heidelberg to visit the ruins of its red-walled castle. In Strasbourg, France, you’ll be amazed by the red-sandstone Gothic cathedral with ancient murals and fascinating astronomical clock. Also, stroll through the lovely La Petite France district with its quaint shops, delightful bistros, and peaceful waterfront promenade. Before the end of your voyage of discovery and celebration, stop in Breisach, Germany, the gateway to Germany’s Black Forest. Here, find unrivaled natural beauty in the area best known for cherry cake and the cuckoo clock.

Enjoy your holiday on the luxurious 5-star cruise ship MS GRACE. With a maximum of 142 people aboard, the MS Grace offers plenty of space for its guests to relax to the fullest. In the entrance hall you will find the reception as well as an elegant board shop. On the Diamond deck you can enjoy delicious snacks and meals in Arthur's Bistro, which serves as a second restaurant, along with the main restaurant on the Ruby deck. Here, you will also find the Panorama Bar with lounge, from which you can enjoy the beautiful view while having a drink. The ship is equipped with a modern fitness center and beauty salon, in which you can pamper yourself with a SPA treatment. Treat yourself with a new haircut from our hairdresser or enjoy a relaxing rest in the jacuzzi at the sundeck of the MS GRACE.

day 1

From 1 PM throughout the day, the crew and the Vegan Travel Cruise Director will welcome you aboard the beautiful MS Grace. If you arrive earlier, you can store your luggage onboard the ship or have a rest in the Panorama-Lounge. Your cabins will be ready from 1 PM.

After you enjoyed a light embarkation snack, you will have enough time to visit some of Amsterdam’s Highlights: marvel at one of the many canals (e.g., the Prinsengracht, which canal belt is even a UNESCO World Heritage Site), visit one of the famous museums in Amsterdam like the Van Gogh Museum, the Rijksmuseum, the Heineken Museum or the Anne Frank House, or stroll through the historic streets and relax in one of the many vegan cafes or restaurants.

At night you will enjoy a delicious vegan dinner in the Panorama-Restaurant. After dinner you still have enough time for an evening walk through this unique city. At 11 PM our ship will leave Amsterdam: you will spend your first night on board your floating boutique hotel while our ship is sailing towards Nijmegen.

day 2

Early in the morning, around 7:30 AM, we will arrive in Nijmegen.

Nijmegen is known for its impressive, historic castles and Batenburg Ruins is one of them. It provides a glimpse into one of the oldest castles in Gelderland (mid-12th century). Doornenburg Castle is also quite popular. It’s where the Rhine and Waal rivers meet and its fortress, a section free to enter, is where visitors find the castle chapel and the coffee rooms. Not far from this castle is Fort Pannerden, which is part of the New Dutch Water Line, a line of water-based defenses overlooking the Rhine River.

In the modern city center, there are constant reminders of Nijmegen’s history everywhere. Sit at one of the many terrace cafes and restaurants and view the De Waagh, a 17th century renaissance ‘weighing house’. Better yet, go inside!

The Grote Markt (Big Market or Town Square) is of course worth visiting on its own especially on Mondays and Saturdays as these are the designated ‘open market days’ when various market stalls are set up to sell their wares from Grote Markt to Burchtstraat and the adjacent streets. Several buildings have been designated as National Monuments too such as the Boterwaag and the Sint-Stevenspoort so just a walk around the square is a visual treat.

After you spent the morning exploring Nijmegen, our ship will continue at 3 PM to cruise to Cologne.

day 3

After you enjoyed your vegan breakfast buffet, you will have the whole day to explore the vibrant city of Cologne.

Spending one day in Cologne offers an exciting opportunity to immerse yourself in the city's rich history, impressive landmarks and vibrant culture. Here are some suggested sights to make the most of your day in this beautiful city:

Cologne Cathedral (Kölner Dom): Start your day early with a visit to the iconic Cologne Cathedral, a UNESCO World Heritage site and one of Europe's most magnificent cathedrals. Marvel at its Gothic architecture, and if you're feeling adventurous, climb the 533 steps to the top of the south tower for breathtaking panoramic views of the city.

Old Town (Altstadt): Stroll through the cobbled streets of the Old Town, where you'll find an array of shops, boutiques, and art galleries. Take in the picturesque views of the Rhine River and the Hohenzollern Bridge, adorned with countless love locks.

Wallraf-Richartz Museum: Art enthusiasts shouldn't miss the Wallraf-Richartz Museum, housing an extensive collection of European art, including masterpieces from the medieval period to the early 20th century.

Rheinauhafen: Take a leisurely stroll along the Rheinauhafen, a modern harbor district with unique architecture, including the iconic "Kranhäuser" (Crane Houses). The promenade offers excellent views of the river and the city's skyline.

Shopping on Schildergasse: Cologne's Schildergasse is one of the busiest shopping streets in Europe. Explore the wide range of shops, boutiques, and department stores, and find souvenirs or unique items to take back home.

day 4

Early in the morning we arrive in Koblenz. After breakfast you can enjoy an extensive morning in this beautiful city where the rivers Rhine and Moselle meet. The picturesque city of Koblenz boasts a long history dating back to Roman times, and this is evident in the various historic sites and architecture scattered throughout the city. Koblenz’ location at the meeting point of two major rivers offers stunning views and picturesque landscapes. You can either hike up or take a cable car ride from the city across the Rhine to the Ehrenbreitstein Fortress. Perched on the opposite side of the Rhine from the city center, this fortress is one of the largest in Europe and offers not only a rich history but also an excellent vantage point to admire Koblenz and the rivers below.

The Moselle Valley is renowned for its wine production, and Koblenz serves as a great base to explore the nearby vineyards and sample some excellent German wines.

Enjoy lunch aboard while we’re sailing and enjoy beautiful views of the landscapes passing by.

day 5

After a nourishing breakfast and a relaxing morning on board, we dock in the beautiful city of Speyer around midday.

Richard the Lionheart, Bernard of Clairvaux, Henry IV, Conrad II, Conrad III. – All of these famous crowned men came through Speyer in their lives, shaped the city and left their mark. The lovely city in the Palatinate, with its imperial cathedral as a landmark, the Palatinate Historical Museum and the Technology Museum, is one of the most livable cities in Germany. Speyer and the Salian Imperial Cathedral are inextricably linked. The silhouette of the largest preserved and most important church building of the Romanesque era is impressive from a distance. From 1039 onwards it was the church of the grave of eight emperors and kings for almost 300 years. Enjoy a lovely afternoon in the city before getting back on board and heading to Strasbourg.

day 6

In the morning we arrive in Strasbourg, the largest port on the Upper Rhine and cultural center of France’s Alsace region. Thanks to its location at the border of France and Germany, it boasts a convivial mix of cultural influences. Strasbourg has a lot to offer: The Notre-Dame de Strasbourg Cathedral is an architectural marvel and a symbol of the city. The well-preserved Old Town is enclosed on all sides by the little Ill River, with sites so compact that it is easy to explore the “island” on foot. And there is plenty to explore: cobblestone streets lined with wooden houses and intersected by picturesque canals. You have the whole day to explore until we set sail again and take you to the next destination, while you enjoy dinner and a relaxing evening aboard.

day 7

Early in the morning we arrive in Breisach. After a delicious breakfast, you can explore Breisach, a medieval and charming small-town in Germany, rich in history.

Breisach is a gateway to the fabled Black Forest region, built on a basalt rock outcropping in the Rhine plain. It is located in one of the warmest parts of Germany, across the river from French Alsace, famous for its wine growing. But Breisach, too, can boast about its wine: it is home to Europe’s largest cellars, with a storage capacity of more than 160 million liters. The most prominent landmark of Breisach is the Romanesque-Gothic St. Stephen’s Cathedral, built between the 12th and 13th centuries. Its two towers are visible from throughout the city and from the Rhine.

What are the typical demographics of other passengers onboard?

Travelers come from around the world, though all speak English fluently. They range in age from millennials to seniors. Couples, solo travelers, and honeymooners are all common. No one should feel out of place! A vegan journey of discovery not to be missed!

Will you offer a pre- or post-cruise extension?

How can I book shore excursions?

Once we finished the planning of our shore excursions, all booked guests will receive an email with all details of our shore excursions.
Usually these details are available 6 - 8 weeks prior to cruise departure.

Does the ship have Wifi?

Yes, there will be WiFi onboard the ship, which is also already included in your cruise fare! Being close to shore, the connection is quite good at river cruises but internet on board can never be as reliable as on land. There will always be some level of unreliability, especially the further out to sea you sail.

Our connection relies on a cellular or satellite terminal—the best possible solution for river cruising. Due to the nature of data bandwidth and latency, as well as potential interruptions in satellite signals based on terrain and weather, you may experience slower online connections than you are accustomed to at home. That’s why we recommend to download your content such as movies, series or software updates before the cruise, so there is enough data for everyone to use the WiFi.
