Enjoy your breakfast onboard while our purser works on the border crossing formalities. After clearance, the Mekong Jewel ship continues to cross the border between Cambodia and Vietnam. Drop anchor midstream upon arrival Long Khanh island. Lunch is served onboard. In the afternoon, board our wooden sampan to visit Long Khanh A. Here, a large number of traditional scarves are woven in many village homes and exported to Cambodia. Guests have the opportunity to observe the weaving process by traditional looms passed down many generations. Some villagers are also embroidery artists and display their art for visitors to enjoy. The inhabitants of this rural area have only recently become familiar with western travelers and always offer a friendly welcome. Before returning to the sampans, guests can enjoy a walk around the beautiful evergreen island, stopping for a visit at the home of a local war veteran. Return to the ship.

In the morning, the Mekong Jewel will dock at Phnom Penh port.

After lunch on board, spend about half day exploring some main attractions of this developing city which boasts a rich blend of Khmer and colonial architecture. Make the first visit to Wat Phnom with legendary founding place of Phnom Penh which nowadays known as active Buddhist monastery then continue to the Royal Palace and Silver Pagoda which were both built in 1866 under King Norodom. The Royal Palace is a complex of buildings which serves as the royal residence of the King of Cambodia. The 'Silver Pagoda' sits next to the Royal Palace, separated by a walled walkway, but within the same larger walled compound.

Return to our ship for dinner and spend your time explore the city.

Based on archaeologists’ statements this Temple complex was built in 1840. Some parts of the building were made by wood and have been renovated 1998. An emerald statue was found during the renovation believed to be over 180 years old and given this Wat its second name Wat KeoMoni Chort (Emerald). In front of the two Golden Buddhist Columns (53meter tall), where two temples, the north temple called Preah Keo Preah Kor and the south temple called BakSei Chamkrong. Unfortunately, Baksei Chamkrong temple was destroyed by a landslide in 2020. Enjoy wandering around this temple complex and then proceed to the Main Pagoda.

Upon entering the beautiful and colourful Main Pagoda, we receive a traditional water blessing from the local monks.

Continue spending another half day tour in Phnom Penh to learn about more about the turbulent Khmer Rouge years with the visit at Tuol Sleng museum which is the site of a former high school that was used as the notorious Security Prison 21 (S-21) by the Khmer Rouge regime from its rise to power in 1975 to its fall in 1979. Continue to Russian market for strolling around and shopping before heading back to our ship and lunch will be served on board.

Rest of the day at leisure to relax in your room or take part in the optional tour with surcharge will be advised.

To which airport do I have to fly to?

We recommend flying into Tan Son Nhat International Airport (SGN), which is the main airport in Ho Chi Minh City.

Which Airport do I fly from on my return flight?

We recommend flying out of Siem Reap–Angkor International Airport (SAI), which is located 50 km from the city center.
(There is a local shuttle bus between Siem Reap and the airport. Of course you can simply grab a taxi as well.)

WHAT ARE THE TYPICAL DEMOGRAPHICS OF OTHER PASSENGERS ONBOARD?

Travelers come from around the world, though all speak English fluently. They range in age from millenials to seniors. Couples, solo travelers, and honeymooners are all common. No one should feel out of place! A vegan journey of discovery not to be missed!

DO CRUISE RATES INCLUDE INTERNATIONAL FLIGHTS?

Cruise rates do not include international flights. We find that it is usually less expensive for travelers to book these separately and this also allows you the flexibility to choose the schedule and routing that is most convenient for you. You can purchase international flights on your own, or we can certainly help you arrange these flights.

DO CRUISE RATES INCLUDE A HOTEL BEFORE OR AFTER THE CRUISE?

The rates online include your all-vegan cruise experience only – all vegan meals while on your cruise, excursions and the accommodations aboard our ship. Rates do not include flights to Ho Chi Minh City and from Siem Reap or extra hotel nights. We can arrange any extra hotel nights or airport transfers you may need while on the mainland.
