Wake early as we glide into Bamberg, one of Germany's most beautifully preserved medieval cities. A UNESCO World Heritage site, Bamberg feels like something from a storybook - a town of bridges, cobblestone lanes, and the famous Old Town Hall perched improbably on an island in the middle of the river.

Morning: Step ashore to explore. Visit the towering cathedral, wander through the winding streets, and breathe in the atmosphere of a city that has changed little in 500 years. Bamberg is also famous for its smoked beer—a uniquely Franconian tradition. (Vegan options? Naturally, we'll have recommendations.)

Afternoon: We depart at 14:00 and settle in for a scenic afternoon of cruising. As the light fades, the ship transforms. The festive decorations glow warmer, the anticipation builds, and somewhere in the lounge, a bottle of sparkling wine is being chilled.

Evening – New Year's Eve Gala: Tonight is ours. A spectacular New Year's Eve dinner, a toast as the clock strikes midnight, and the first cheers of 2028 echoing across the water. Whether you're dancing, laughing, or simply watching the stars from the deck - this is a celebration you won't forget.

New Year's Day

Residenz, romance & the first day of the year

Welcome to 2028. The morning is yours to ease into the new year - perhaps a leisurely breakfast / brunch, a quiet moment on deck, or simply watching the gentle riverbanks slide past.

We arrive in Würzburg mid-morning. This Franconian gem is dominated by the Residenz, one of Europe's most magnificent baroque palaces and a UNESCO World Heritage site. Its grand staircase, painted by Tiepolo, is a masterpiece of illusion and light.

Day: Step ashore to explore. The Residenz awaits, but so do the city's charming streets, the old Main Bridge lined with saints, and the Marienberg Fortress towering above the river. January 1st is a quiet day here—a day for strolling, sipping, and savoring the slow rhythm of a new beginning.

Evening: We stay until 20:00, giving you time to see Würzburg in winter twilight. Return to the ship for dinner as we cast off toward the next adventure.

The Upper Middle Rhine – Where Legends Come Alive

As the morning mist lifts, you enter one of the most spectacular river landscapes on earth. The Upper Middle Rhine Valley, a UNESCO World Heritage site, unfolds before you: steep slate cliffs, terraced vineyards, and more medieval castles than anywhere else on the continent.

Watch for the Loreley Rock, where according to legend a golden?haired maiden lured sailors to their fate with her enchanting song. The cliff rises 132 metres above the water - a dramatic sight even without the myth. Count the castles as they appear around every bend: Marksburg, the only never?destroyed hilltop fortress; Stolzenfels, a fairytale palace; Pfalzgrafenstein, a former toll castle rising directly from the river. Each ruin tells a story of knights, emperors, and centuries of river trade.

Find your spot on deck or in the panoramic lounge, camera ready. This is the Rhine that inspired poets, painters, and romantics - and today, it inspires us.

Where two rivers meet

We arrive at Koblenz in the afternoon - a city defined by its dramatic location at the confluence of the Rhine and Moselle rivers. This is where the legendary Rhine Gorge begins, a stretch of the river dotted with more castles than any other waterway in Europe.

Afternoon: Explore Koblenz's old town, visit the Deutsches Eck (German Corner) where the two rivers meet, or take the cable car up to the Ehrenbreitstein Fortress for breathtaking views of the Rhine Valley.

Evening: We stay late - until the next morning - giving you time to experience Koblenz after dark. The fortress is illuminated, the rivers shimmer, and the city's cozy pubs and cafés offer a warm retreat. Return to the ship for dinner, then perhaps a nightcap as we prepare for tomorrow's highlight: the Rhine Gorge.

The Lower Middle Rhine – Volcanic Peaks & Dragon Rock

After leaving Koblenz, the Rhine valley widens, but the drama only deepens. Here, ancient volcanic hills rise from the riverbank - the Siebengebirge (Seven Mountains). Their rounded peaks are cloaked in forest, and atop the most famous of them, the Drachenfels (Dragon’s Rock), sits a ruined castle and a Neo?Gothic palace. The view from this hill is said to be the most celebrated in Germany.

As you cruise, look for the charming town of Linz am Rhein, known as the “Colorful Town on the Rhine” for its perfectly preserved half?timbered houses. A little further, history buffs will recognize Remagen, where the Ludendorff Bridge once stood - the last bridge across the Rhine captured by Allied forces in World War II. Today, its towers house a moving Peace Museum.

This is the Rhine of volcanoes, legends, and quiet beauty. Whether you’re sipping a warm drink on deck or watching the silhouettes of the Siebengebirge fade into the twilight, this stretch feels like a secret shared only with those who travel by river.

Which airport do I fly into for the start of the cruise?

The departure point is Nuremberg Airport (NUE), which is well connected via major European hubs like London, Paris, and Amsterdam.

Alternatively, you can fly into Munich Airport (MUC), which offers more international connections. From Munich, it's a comfortable two-hour train ride to Nuremberg.

Where do I fly out of?

The cruise concludes in Amsterdam. You can easily fly home from Amsterdam Airport Schiphol (AMS), or better yet, stay a few extra days to enjoy the city's winter charm.

When do we disembark on the last day?

Disembarkation takes place after a final breakfast on board, usually between 10:00 AM and 11:00 AM. This gives you plenty of time to reach the airport for afternoon flights or to start your post-cruise stay in Amsterdam.

Where does the ship dock in Nuremberg and Amsterdam?

The exact docking locations are assigned by the port authorities and have not been confirmed yet. However, you don’t need to worry - your official cruise tickets will be sent to you 6 - 8 weeks before we set sail. These will include the precise address of the pier and all necessary arrival details.

Can any cabin accommodate a third guest (adult or child)?

To ensure the comfort and safety of all passengers, the cabins aboard The Gentleman are strictly designed for double occupancy (maximum of two guests).

Third Adult: Unfortunately, we cannot accommodate a third adult in a single cabin as there are no pull-out sofas or "roll-away" beds available.
Traveling with a Child: If you are traveling with a young child, they may be able to join you in your cabin provided they share the existing bedding with the adults. Please note that no additional beds can be added to the room, so we recommend this only for very young children to ensure everyone gets a restful night's sleep.
