Southern France in autumn. Golden leaves, crisp mornings, olive groves, cypress hedges, and steep cliffs meet the shores of the Rhone. The Provence and Camargue regions of Southern France draw you in and you will find the easy going way of life and the picture-perfect light, revered by artists throughout the ages, irresistible.

Tranquil afternoons in the shade of ancient buildings, evenings under the starlit sky. The way of life on board becomes more relaxed and more joyous with each day. Many have attempted to harness this inspiring atmosphere. The Burgundy winemakers, with their rustic French flair, capture the taste of the wines, the sun, and the earth in their bottles. The Perfumers take the scent of the provincial lavender flowers and press them into luxurious essences, and the Chefs on board, use the aromas of the Mediterranean herbs to bring out the best in their vegan creations.

It is the artists however, who have been most impressive of all in replicating the atmosphere: Van Gogh, Chagall, and many others have brought to life the golden light and the magical colors on their canvases to produce world renowned and loved works of art.

Drifting through this diverse countryside on our Vegan River Cruise is probably the most peaceful way to collect memories and build impressions.

This newly redesigned riverboat debuts in 2017 with a new deck plan optimized for the utmost in spaciousness – with 70% of her cabins measuring 225 square feet or larger – and accommodating no more than 98 guests, while similar-sized riverboats average about 160. Guest amenities inside her 14 lush 300-square-foot Suites include brocade upholstery, roomy walk-in closets with built-in drawers, spacious bathrooms with separate showers, and two French balconies with floor-to-ceiling windows that open to idyllic riverscapes. She also sports twenty roomy 225-square-foot cabins, four 183-square-foot cabins and one 182 square-foot cabin, similarly furnished. Eight 150-square-foot cabins are cozy and comfortable, and are similar in décor and style to our larger suites. 85% have floor-to-ceiling windows with real French balconies that open on to a balcony in the fresh air; all have in-room movies, minibar, adjustable heating and cooling, private bathroom and shower with pampering vegan toiletries. In addition to our main dining room, The Compass Rose, the ship also features Arthur's, a second dining venue offering casual fare.

Indescribable Comfort

We couldn’t find just the right words to describe the sumptuous bedding and amenities we custom ordered for your in-cabin cruising comfort... puffy white duvets and pillows of very fine mako cotton... 100% cotton blankets, temperature balancing and so soft to the skin... and thick pillow-top mattresses that lull you to sleep... along with the vegan bath products... absorbent terry cloth robes and fluffy towels... hair dryers... but we do know they are key for waking up refreshed and relaxed for your traveling pleasure.

Arles stands out thanks to a mix of Roman, Romanesque, Provençal and gypsy culture. Emperor

Constantin called it once the “little Rome of Gaul” and the amphitheatre from the first century A.D. still gives a glimpse into the Roman past of the city. The Church of St Trophyme, dating back to the 12th century, is another must-see, as is the adjoining cloister which is the most famous one in Provence thanks to its ornamental decorations. It was in Arles that Vincent van Gogh spent the last years of his life. You’ll no doubt be able to relate to the painter’s love for this city during your walk (in part up some very steep climbs). Maybe you’ll encounter some pilgrims travelling along the French St James’ path which begins in Arles, or you’ll find some time to enjoy a vegan drink at van Gogh’s inspiration for “The Night Café”.

Sheltered by medieval walls, Avignon’s maze of narrow streets is filled with beautiful churches, museums and impressive palaces tracing the history of this ancient, vibrant city that you can explore today. Recognized for its architectural beauty and historic importance, the centre of Avignon was designated a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1995, and the city served as the European cultural capital for 2000. You can spend the day exploring the cultural and historic richness of the City of the Popes. Whether it’s down winding alleys, along city palaces or past churches and chapels, all streets in Avignon lead to the papal palace where Pope Clement V settled at the beginning of the 14th century, followed by later popes and antipopes.
